David Bowie remembered by fellow musicians and collaborators

Elton John, Keith Urban, Donny McCaslin and Nile Rodgers reflect on David Bowie’s life and influence.

One year ago, the world was celebrating David Bowie’s 69th birthday and the release of a surprise album, Blackstar. When the artist died just two days later, it was revealed that he was secretly suffering from liver cancer.

In the year since, his collaborators, contemporaries, friends and fans have spoken with SiriusXM about his wide influence on music, culture and humanity and them personally. Listen to their comments while you celebrate the uncategorizable music legend’s life.

Donny McCaslin

Donny McCaslin is a renowned saxophonist who happened to be Bowie’s final musical collaborator. He discussed  working with Bowie on his final album, Blackstar, on VOLUME‘s morning show, Feedback.

“It was like a dream except it was something I never could have dreamed of,” McCaslin said, reflecting on working hand-in-hand with Bowie on Blackstar. “David Bowie was a visionary artist whose generosity, creative spirit and fearlessness will stay with me the rest of my days. Beyond Now is dedicated to him and to all who loved him.”


Keith Urban

During country star Keith Urban’s RipCord World Tour announcement, the country star paid tribute to David Bowie, whom he considered an inspiration.

“He was always leading the charge to the next thing we would all be trying to cop,” he told Highway host Storme Warren.

Nile Rodgers

Nile Rodgers, who produced Bowie’s fifteenth sudio album, Let’s Dance, remembered his friend and collaborator in a conversation with Volume’s Mark Goodman. Rodgers also served as musical director for Lady Gaga’s David Bowie tribute performance at the 2016 Grammy Awards.

“Our lives changed from the moment he and I collided,” Rodgers remarked.
