Jimmy Fallon is an undisputed fan of The Beatles.
As host of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” he’s had a few opportunities to meet Paul McCartney, who has not only been a guest and performer on the show but also Fallon’s sketch comedy partner. And when McCartney took the stage at Harlem’s world-famous Apollo Theater for a special SiriusXM concert in December 2010, Fallon was there to cheer him on, along with a packed house of lucky SiriusXM listeners.
Since the launch of The Beatles Channel on SiriusXM, many celebrity fans have visited the studio to tell stories and play their favorite songs by The Fab Four. Billy Joel shared stories of why he believed America needed The Beatles, Ron Howard gave behind-the-scenes stories from making “The Beatles: Eight Days a Week,” and now Fallon has his turn to reminisce about growing up with The Beatles.
While Fallon is famous for his impressions and making guests laugh on “The Tonight Show,” he’s also a formidable musician. In his Guest DJ session, listeners have the rare chance to hear Fallon speak intimately about music.
“They used to make albums in order, from start to finish, and it all flowed. I think that’s missing from today’s music,” Fallon says as he prepares to play a track from The Beatles’ “Revolver” album.
Throughout his DJ session, Fallon shared memories of Beatles tracks from his childhood, sang as he told stories about his favorite tunes, and shared maybe-true-maybe-rumor stories he’s heard from celebrities encountered during his tenure as a “Saturday Night Live” cast member and talk show host.
In one clip, Fallon recalled covering a Beatles song in his first band, giving accolades to his childhood friends/bandmates from Poughkeepsie, NY. Fallon then segued from his early years to speaking with McCartney backstage at “The Tonight Show,” inquiring about how he came up with the unique melody.
Hear more of Jimmy Fallon and his favorite Fab Four songs as he plays Guest DJ on The Beatles Channel, premiering Friday, August 11, at 5pm ET.
