After the 2016 Election, Hillary Clinton Implores More Women to Get Into Politics
“The best answer for sexism in politics is more women in politics,” Clinton said during an exclusive SiriusXM Town Hall.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is “pulling the curtain back about what it felt like to be the candidate,” revealing “the good, the bad, and the ugly” in her newest and perhaps most revealing book, “What Happened.”
“As soon as you step into the arena, everything about you is fair game. It’s just remarkable,” Clinton told SiriusXM host Zerlina Maxwell during a SiriusXM Progress Town Hall.
Parts of Clinton’s book focus on the “endemic sexism and misogyny” that takes place in politics, especially during the 2016 election. But how do you solve a problem as old as the nation?
“The best answer for sexism in politics is more women in politics,” Clinton said.
And one of her post-political life initiatives is to encourage just that. She launched Onward Together, a group that calls on women to “resist, insist, persist, enlist.”
“I also wanted to make the point that it’s not just about me … you look at what’s done to Elizabeth Warren or Kamala Harris or Kirsten Gillibrand or on the Republican side, the horrible things that [Donald] Trump said about women interviewers and about the only Republican woman on the stage. It is not just about one woman.”
Amidst new revelations that the president’s son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner used a private email server during his time as a government official, Clinton called out “the rank hypocrisy that this Trump campaign, and now this Trump White House, is engaged in.”
Clinton’s use of a private server during her time as Secretary of State was an ongoing criticism and attack point throughout the 2016 election. She says, “It was a dumb mistake, but it was a dumber scandal.”
She added, “If they were sincere about it, I think you’d have Republican members of Congress calling for an investigation. I haven’t heard that yet. … I don’t think we will.”
