In a recent interview during SiriusXM NFL Radio’s Training Camp Tour, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott shared his thoughts on the challenges of being the signal-caller for the Cowboys and the impact of newly acquired wide receiver Brandin Cooks.

Last season in Week 1, Prescott’s struggles against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers led to 134 passing yards, an interception, and a right thumb injury that sidelined him for six weeks. Despite the setback, he returned in Week 7 with a solid performance of 207 passing yards and a touchdown against the Detroit Lions. The season ended with Prescott’s 2,860 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in 12 games.

Playing Quarterback:

When asked about his quarterback journey, Prescott expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Cowboys since being drafted in the fourth round eight years ago. He acknowledged the rollercoaster of successes and failures that come with the position, along with the scrutiny and credit he receives for his performance.

“I’ve defeated a lot of doubt in my life and people, a lot of people say that I wouldn’t even play this position. I wouldn’t have made it this far. People week in and week out say, I won’t play any more than I do. So, I’ve just learned to understand that, that’s noise,” said Prescott. “But what I do understand though is when a little trash talk video with some teammates goes viral and many people want to make statements and have their opinions about it, that’s when I understand that this position is about who I play for… when you wear this star on your chest, they’re gonna make a story out of anything.”

Brandin Cooks:

Brandin Cooks’ arrival to the Cowboys received plenty of attention during the offseason. On March 19, 2023, the Cowboys reached an agreement with the Houston Texans, acquiring Cooks in exchange for a 2023 fifth-round pick and a 2024 sixth-round pick. Dak Prescott praised his professionalism and leadership since he’s joined the team, setting a prime example for younger players.

“Something that’s just been amazing to me is his professionalism and his ability to lead. Just bringing on guys like Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb, showing them things… [about] route running they may not know,” said Prescott. “[Brandin is] here to make the room better and to make this team better… he just wants to be here to add any element to this offense into the locker room that he can, and he’s done an amazing job at that.”
