The Real Jazz monthly show titled Generation Next features the new wave of young jazz stars and is hosted by pianist and jazz educator Shelly Berg, Dean of the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. This week Shelly plays a duet and probes the personal history and influences of drummer Kendrick Scott. Scott is an A-list drummer who is part of the suddenly very fruitful jazz scene from Houston that includes among others jazz star Robert Glasper. He’s performed with Pat Matheny, Dianne Reeves, Kenny Garrett, Terence Blanchard and many others.

This week he will unearths an interview he did back in 2012 the late legendary keyboardist, George Duke, who produced Christian’s album Family Affair, and was one of the most beloved musicians in jazz history.

Since 1980 she has also been a regular voice on NPR on many syndicated shows including “Jazz Set” and “Toast of the Nation.” In addition she’s been honored by the Jazz Journalists Association and was honored by the city of New York with a “Ladies In Jazz Award.”
