On the two-year anniversary of her record-breaking debut single, “drivers license,” Olivia Rodrigo took to Instagram to tease fans about new music to come.
“working on so many new songs I’m excited to show u! thank u for everything,” she posted to her Stories on January 8 in addition to a video clip with her “SOUR” album producer, Dan Nigro, featuring a short, unreleased piano melody.
Olivia’s sophomore album will have big shoes to fill when it’s released. In 2021, “drivers license,” “deja vu,” “Good 4 U,” and “traitor” all reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “SOUR” sat at No. 1 for five weeks atop the albums chart. At the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards, Olivia won Best New Artist, “SOUR” won Best Pop Vocal Album, and “drivers license” won Best Pop Solo Performance.
Following the album’s success, Olivia went on her first headlining tour that year and released “Sour Prom” on YouTube and “Driving Home 2 U” on Disney+.
Olivia shared with SiriusXM that she received a special present from Taylor Swift with a handwritten note while she was working on “SOUR.”
“[Taylor] gave me this ring ’cause she said she wore one just like it when she wrote ‘Red,’ and she wanted me to have one like it,” Olivia said.
Olivia also explained why she’ll continue writing extremely personal lyrics regardless of the speculation it causes.
“The way I look at it is, people would speculate anyway, whether I wrote something really specific or really broad. And I’ve always been a really specific personal songwriter, and I’m not going to change that for fear of what people on the internet are going to say,” she told the “Morning Mash Up” on SiriusXM Hits 1.
Tune in to SiriusXM Hits 1 to hear Olivia’s “SOUR” hits — and be among the first to hear her new music when it drops.
