Following AFC Championship Win, Julian Edelman Says Patriots ‘Still Got More Meat on the Bone’
New England won another AFC Championship with Tom Brady’s last-minute heroics.
The New England Patriots won another AFC Championship in typical New England Patriots fashion, with Tom Brady performing last-minute heroics.
And, in typical Patriot fashion, Brady collaborated with his favorite target, Julian Edelman, to make it happen.
The Brady-to-Edelman combo did most of its damage in Sunday’s 37-31 overtime victory against the Kansas City Chiefs to vault them to their third consecutive Super Bowl when it counted the most: in the fourth quarter and OT.
“First thing came to my mind, ‘Feels good to win on the road,’” Edelman told Kirk Morrison on “NFL Rewind” on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “Second thing, ‘Damn, we got to go play a team we don’t know.’ That’s just kind of the mentality I have. You’ve always got that short memory, you’re always thinking about what’s going next. Yes, of course, this is awesome, you get the win. But right now, we’ve still got we got more meat on the bone, so we’ve got to go chow it down.”
Edelman finished with a game-high seven receptions, on 10 targets, for 96 yards, with two catches for 35 yards on the winning drive in overtime. Amazingly, he made his final two catches in third-and-10 situations when the Chiefs’ defense was double-covering him. Brady, Edelman, and their teammates simply wouldn’t be denied in their quest to get to Super Bowl LIII to face the Los Angeles Rams.
“Well, they were doing that a bunch and, thankfully, Tom was throwing some good balls, we were finding a couple cracks here and there, and we were able to make some plays,” Edelman said. “There’s a lot of things we could have done a lot better, but both teams can say that, and that’s just how the ball rolls sometimes. Tip your hat to Kansas City, they’re a really good opponent. I have nothing but respect for them, their fans. It was an awesome, electric environment.
“We played a tough opponent with the Chiefs. They played an unbelievable game. We just made a couple more plays, and we’re going to have a tough one coming up against a team we don’t know, L.A. Rams.”
