Jackie Cruz Made More Money Waitressing Than Acting on Early ‘Orange Is the New Black’ Seasons

The actress also opened up about losing $20,000 while pursuing a music career and more on Shade 45.

Before “Orange Is the New Black” made her a fan favorite, Jackie Cruz was still working late nights to pay the bills.

During a recent appearance on Shade 45’s “CTRL, ALT, D-Stroy” with D-Stroy, Jackie revealed that she continued waitressing while starring on the hit Netflix series because the acting pay wasn’t enough to support her. In fact, she said she earned more money working in nightlife than she did during the show’s early seasons.

“I made more money waitressing than on Netflix,” Jackie recalled, explaining that she worked at venues including LAVO while filming the first few seasons of the acclaimed prison drama. She remembered fans recognizing her while serving tables and being surprised to learn she was balancing restaurant shifts with a role on the series.

During the interview, Jackie also opened up about losing $20,000 while pursuing a music career, reflected on her early days hustling in Los Angeles, and shared stories about working with will.i.am and nearly joining a girl group before finding success as an actress.
