Lil Jon Reacts to Jay-Z Picking Himself for 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show
Lil Jon reacts to Jay-Z’s 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show announcement and shares his experience with Usher on the world’s biggest stage.

Lil Jon is okay with JAY-Z’s executive decision to perform at the 2027 Apple Music Halftime Show.
In an interview with Andy Cohen on Andy Cohen Live, October 27, Jon reacted to the news of the “Empire State of Mind” rapper choosing himself to take the big stage. Listen to the full interview on the SiriusXM app.
“I think it’s great for him,” the “Yeah” rapper said. “Honestly, I probably would have done the same thing. Eventually, I would have pushed myself in there too. I’m not mad at him at all, and I’m sure he’s going to bring out a lot of special guests. He’s already been testing it out in a lot of his shows this year, seeing who he might wanna bring. And he’s already figuring it out.”
When it comes to performing on “the world’s biggest stage,” Jon is no stranger, after he pulled double duty for Usher’s 2024 performance in Las Vegas.
“I was musical director and also performing,” Jon noted. “That was also crazy because it’s 20 years after ‘Yeah’ was released we’re doing the Super Bowl. That’s a blessing too.”
“I think that’s why he called me in,” he added. “Because I did his Vegas residency also. I was the musical director for that. I’m part of making sure the flow’s right and making people want to have a good time. That was an awesome experience too. Not many people can say they were musical director for a Super Bowl halftime as well as performing.”
For Jon, having Usher trust him with the direction of the show and give him the chance to perform one of his own songs was a huge moment in their relationship.
“I commend him and thank him for giving me the opportunity to do ‘Turn Down For What’ in the show. Cause he could have said, ‘Nah I don’t have time for that, I want to put some more of my stuff in.’ But it was a great opportunity, and it was a big look for me.”
Lil Jon talks more about his time with Usher and of his life and career highlights in his memoir, I Only Shout So You Can Hear Me, out now.
