Olivia Wilde almost stayed behind the camera on “The Invite.”

During Radio Andy‘s exclusive “The Invite Cast Event” hosted by Julia Cunningham, Olivia revealed she originally planned only to direct the film, admitting she struggled with “impostor syndrome” while acting alongside Seth Rogen, Edward Norton, and Penélope Cruz.

“I felt totally prepared to direct this,” Olivia said. “But I didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize the kind of focus I wanted to bring to the project.”

The “Don’t Worry Darling” filmmaker also explained that her fellow cast members ultimately encouraged her to take the role herself. Edward joked that he and Seth even texted each other while Olivia considered other actors, wondering how long the “bait and switch” would last before convincing her she was the right person for the part.

Additionally, the stars bonded over a shared love of Bravo’s “Below Deck” and Olivia credited Seth’s work on “The Studio” for inspiring her confidence to act and direct simultaneously.
