Gabby Barrett Reveals the Meaning Behind ‘In on It’: ‘It’s About Trusting God’s Plan’
During her interview on The Highway, the country star also opened up about her musical evolution since her hit “I Hope.”
During an appearance on The Highway (Ch. 56) with host Cody Alan, country star Gabby Barrett explained that although her new song, “In on It,” was pitched to her rather than written by her, it immediately felt deeply personal.

‘It’s a Song That People Could Really Use Right Now’
“As soon as I heard it, I was like, this is definitely a message that I would write or want to say to people,” Gabby said. “I feel like it’s a song that people could really use right now.”
According to Gabby, “In on It” is about trusting God’s plan, even during seasons of uncertainty.
“It’s really just about trusting God with the plan of your life, even when you’re in a season of it not making sense,” she said. Gabby admitted she’s often wanted immediate answers during difficult moments, but looking back, those experiences have ultimately shaped her and taught her valuable lessons.
“It’s just a reminder that the author hasn’t handed us the script of life,” she added, “and to just trust what that means and how that’s going to work out.”
Cody noted that the uplifting track feels like the “perfect Gabby Barrett song” and highlighted its central message: “God’s got a plan even if you ain’t in on it.”
The conversation also touched on Gabby’s musical evolution since her breakout hit “I Hope.” While the revenge anthem was inspired by heartbreak she experienced as an 18-year-old just out of high school, Gabby said she’s in a much different place today.
“I’ve definitely grown a lot,” she said. “I’m talking about different things and different inspiration is coming up.”
“In on It” Lyrics
[Verse 1]
He’s turnin’ dust circles on three hundred acres
And if it don’t rain soon
There might not be a later out there on that old farm
Didn’t used to be so hard
[Verse 2]
She’s addin’ up tips after pullin’ a double
Hopin’ the kids didn’t give the neighbor much trouble
By now, they’re fast asleep
She’s wondering when these ends are gonna meet
[Chorus]
Keep bettin’ on a dream even when you can’t win on it
Keep holdin’ on when you’re way out on a limb on it
Might be your hands but he’s got his fingerprints on it
God’s got a plan even if you ain’t in on it
Take all thе nights that you don’t think that you can take anymore
Take all thе weight that you can’t carry, let it fall to the floor
Lift up your hands and put an amen on it
God’s got a plan even if you ain’t in on it
[Verse 3]
He’s covered in wires askin’ all about heaven
And if his dog’s up there and will years feel like seconds?
They don’t cry ’til they’re in the hall
How could he be so strong and so small?
[Chorus]
Keep bettin’ on a dream even when you can’t win on it
Keep holdin’ on when you’re way out on a limb on it
Might be your hands but he’s got his fingerprints on it
God’s got a plan even if you ain’t in on it
Take all the nights that you don’t think that you can take anymore
Take all the weight that you can’t carry, let it fall to the floor
Lift up your hands and put an amen on it
God’s got a plan even if you ain’t in on it
[Bridge]
Just ’cause you don’t hear it, don’t mean he don’t see it
Just ’cause you don’t feel it, don’t mean you don’t pray it
Just ’cause you don’t see it, don’t mean you won’t make it through
Oh, he’s got you
Lift up your hands and put an amen on it
God’s got a plan even if you ain’t in on it
[Outro]
Just ’cause you don’t hear it, don’t mean he don’t see it (Oh)
Just ’cause you don’t feel it, don’t mean you don’t pray it (Oh)
Just ’cause you don’t see it, don’t mean you won’t make it through
(Oh, whoa, oh, oh)
