Fireboy DML told The Heat that performing his Afrobeats song “Peru” on stage at the Awards is “super-proof that we’re getting somewhere” with the genre.

After his BET Awards performance, “Peru” won Best Collaboration at the Urban Music Awards, Most Performed Song of the Year at the BMI London Awards, and International Song of the Year at the BRIT Awards.
