The trial is projected to continue through July 19.

During a 2021 rehearsal on the set of “Rust,” Baldwin killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza with a revolver.

Faced with involuntary manslaughter charges, Baldwin has plead not guilty, alleging he pulled back the gun’s hammer, not the trigger.

Prosecutors dismissed an earlier charge against Baldwin in Hutchins’ death before refiling it after receiving a new analysis of the revolver used on set. Baldwin’s defense argued that the revolver was so damaged during this analysis that it eliminated the possibility of further testing that could prove Baldwin’s innocence; a judge denied a motion to dismiss the case based on these arguments.

The judge wrote, “Evidence of a modification does not render an unaltered firearm potentially useful evidence without explanation as to how additional testing with the modification present might have exonerated Defendant.”

Hannah Gutierrez, the “Rust” film’s armorer, is currently serving an 18-month sentence for involuntary manslaughter. Baldwin also faces up to 18 months in prison if convicted.
