Phish Premieres New ‘Petrichor’ Song on Jam ON
The track is from their upcoming album, “Big Boat,” set for release on October 7.
Fresh off announcing their four-day New Years concert run at Madison Square Garden, Phish premiered their new song, “Petrichor,” on Jam ON. The song is from their upcoming album, “Big Boat,” set for release on October 7.
Although Phish has yet to perform “Petrichor” live as a full band, lead singer and guitarist Trey Anastasio has performed the song with orchestras in the past.
According to a post on Phish.com, Anastasio first conceptualized the song in late 2012, working on melodies in his spare time and using his iPhone to record hundreds of voice memos. Hamilton percussionist/drummer Andres Forero reportedly played classical percussion on the song, and the Trey Anastasio Band horn section (James Casey, Natalie Cressman, and Jennifer Hartswick) also contributed brass to the piece.
Jonathan Schwartz had the pleasure of debuting the track on his show “Gone Phishin'” on Wednesday, which airs weekdays at 9pm ET.
“Big Boat” is produced by Bob Ezrin. Most of the songs on the 13-track album have been performed live, with five exceptions, including “Petrichor.” Phish will ring in 2017 with performances on December 28, 29, 30, and 31 at MSG.
