Maren Morris Applauds Country Music’s New Wave of Talented Women
Maren Morris is taking a moment to appreciate how far country music has come, especially for women.
Reflecting on the current state of the genre during an interview with SiriusXM Hits 1 in the Miami studios, Morris shared her excitement about a new generation of female artists making a major impact.
“I’m so excited that they’re all crushing it,” she said, pointing to a wave of rising stars who are dominating charts, awards, and conversations across the industry. Her own fourth studio album, “D R E A M S I C L E,” arrives May 9.
For Morris, the shift feels especially meaningful given the landscape she came up in. “For a very long time, it was pretty sparse, having women dominate the charts and awards and just be paid what they’re worth,” she explained. “So it’s amazing to see that tide turning.”
What stands out most to her is the sense of shared success rather than rivalry. “They’re all just having this huge moment right now, simultaneously, without competition,” she said, emphasizing the collaborative energy driving the genre forward.
Beyond the artists themselves, Morris is equally inspired by the creative forces behind the scenes. As someone deeply rooted in songwriting, she highlighted the writers shaping today’s biggest records, many of whom she knows personally.
“I’m friends with a lot of them, and I’m super proud that they’re on these big projects,” she said.
And that creative momentum is fueling her own passion. “The songwriting is just getting so good,” Morris added. “That always makes me excited to continue writing.”
At a time when country music is reaching broader audiences than ever, Morris sees the genre’s growth as both natural and long overdue.
“It’s nice to know right now that there’s so much quality music happening,” she said. “I love that country is having a moment. It’s always, to me, been a global genre.”
