Jazz up your weekend and support a good cause as SiriusXM’s Real Jazz (Ch. 67) rebroadcasts the Jazz Foundation of America’s star-studded emergency fund concert, #TheNewGig.

#TheNewGig, which streamed online on Thursday, May 14, will premiere on Real Jazz on Friday, May 15 at 8pm ET, with encores on Saturday, May 16 at 10pm ET and Tuesday, May 19 at 3pm ET.Hosted by Keegan-Michael Key and helmed by veteran producer-drummer and musical director Steve Jordan, the concert features new performances by Jon BatisteElvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Robert Cray, Davell Crawford, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Stanley Jordan, Ivan Neville, Kim Wilson, Angelique Kidjo, Milton Nascimento, and other notables.

The special event also features memorable archival performances from JFA’s annual A Great Night in Harlem fundraiser – which has raised tens of millions of dollars for musicians in need. Performances from this event include JFA lifetime achievement honoree Herbie Hancock and a tribute to Sonny Rollins. The show will also present special appearances by such celebrity friends of the JFA as Wayne Shorter, Bootsy Collins, Jeffrey Wright, Rosie Perez, Bruce Willis, Danny Glover, Mark Ruffin, Michael Imperioli, and Steve Schirr.

Musicians from the JFA’s Jazz and Blues in the Schools program — which brings music to schools and nursing homes in 17 U.S. states and employs hundreds of musicians every month — can also be heard during the special.

Proceeds from #TheNewGig will support the JFA’s COVID-19 Musicians’ Emergency Fund, which was established in March of this year to help musicians and families affected by the pandemic by covering basic living expenses.
