What to Expect

The sixth day of the trial – Tuesday, April 23 – is expected to include arguments about whether Trump should be held in contempt for allegedly violating a gag order. According to prosecutors, the former president has violated that order at least 10 times. Prosecutors argue that Judge Juan Merchan should fine the presumptive Republican presidential nominee and warn him he could get jail time.

Recent Updates

Yesterday (Monday, April 22), during opening statements, the prosecution detailed how they believe former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker, Trump and Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen conspired using a so-called “catch and kill” scheme in August of 2015 to bury negative stories that could be damaging to Trump’s 2016 candidacy and promote articles in the tabloid that were negative about his opponents.

Trump again attacked potential witness Michael Cohen outside the courtroom, saying Cohen “got caught lying, pure lying” in a previous trial.
