Conan O’Brien Jokes with Billie Eilish About Inspiring Her Hit

The GRAMMY-winning artist also discussed her name, fame, and James Cameron on “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend.”

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend,” Billie Eilish told Conan that she and her brother FINNEAS had just started creating “Birds of a Feather” the morning before her last visit to the podcast.

“It was the day that we made ‘Birds of a Feather’ when we came here,” the GRAMMY-winning artist said. “It was like the morning after we had written the beginning of it.”

Billie recalled arriving at the interview buzzing with excitement about the song’s potential. “I remember walking in there and going, I think we made a really cool song, it’s called ‘Birds of a Feather,’” Billie added.

That prompted Conan to jokingly suggest he deserves partial credit for the hit track simply because the interview happened during the song’s creation process.

The conversation also touched on Billie disliking her name growing up as well as her evolving relationship with fame and her fans. The singer admitted that while she once gave “so much” of herself to fans, the growing scale of her celebrity eventually became emotionally overwhelming.

“When it got to a larger scale, it got a little less human somehow,” she explained. “People started treating me less like a human.”

Additionally, Billie revealed that legendary filmmaker James Cameron personally emailed her mother to pitch the idea of a concert film — a message that left her stunned despite having an entire professional team around her.

“Oh, by the way, James Cameron emailed me,” Billie remembered her mom casually saying. “I’m just like, he emailed you?”
