Dan Levy Talks ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ Catherine O’Hara, and His Dad on ‘Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend’
“I go on Instagram and [Catherine’s] face is there… and every time I see her, I stop and I watch,” he says.

On SiriusXM’s “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend,” Dan Levy reflects on “Schitt’s Creek,” working with Catherine O’Hara, and carving out his own path in comedy.
He Still Stops to Watch Catherine O’Hara as Moira Rose
Even after co-creating the series, Dan says he can’t scroll past Moira Rose clips.
“I go on Instagram and her face is there… and every time I see her, I stop and I watch,” he says. “She is impossible not to watch.”
Growing Up in Eugene Levy’s Shadow
Dan recalls taking improv classes at Second City in Toronto – under a very familiar face.
“There was a five foot by six foot photo of my dad in costume… a giant Bobby Bittman looking at me,” he says. “Failing at improv in front of a photo of your father who didn’t fail… is worse than never having done it.”
Catherine O’Hara’s Rewrites
Dan also shares how the late actress would occasionally send notes on scenes.
“The way that she thinks is so on another level,” he says. “You set the table, wait for the email—‘gentlemen, some thoughts’—and read it and say, ‘f**k yeah.’”
Why the ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Wardrobe Was Sold
Despite the show’s success, Dan reveals that much of the wardrobe had to be sold to cover costs.
“We had to sell every piece of clothing… even in our sixth season,” he says.
He kept a few pieces from the show, including select looks from himself, Catherine O’Hara, and Annie Murphy.
