Stephen A. Smith Responds to Kevin Hart Roast Joke, Teases Potential Political Future
On “Straight Shooter,” Stephen A. said the comedian’s comment “stung” because it came from someone he respects.

On last night’s episode of SiriusXM’s “Straight Shooter with Stephen A.,” Stephen A. Smith addressed Kevin Hart’s recent Comedy Central Roast joke naming him among his “Mount Rushmore” of people who “hate black people,” saying the comment “stung” because it came from someone he respects.
Smith said he still has “a lot of love” for Hart and described the comedian as a “good dude,” but pushed back on what he called a broader narrative surrounding him.
He also discussed criticism he says he’s received from some within the Democratic Party for refusing to “kowtow” politically, claiming people associated with the party have attempted to silence him.
The longtime commentator added that the backlash has only intensified his motivation, even teasing potential future ambitions as a political candidate or debate moderator ahead of the 2028 election cycle.
During the episode, Stephen A. also sat down with CBS News chief Washington analyst Robert Costa and discussed the Texas primary, President Trump’s anti-weaponization fund, and who the Democrats can run in 2028.
