Patrick McEnroe Urges US Colleges to Limit International Tennis Players
“I think it’s time to put a cap on the number of international players in American college tennis,” he said on his SiriusXM show.

After the University of Arkansas cut both its men’s and women’s tennis programs, Patrick McEnroe urged American colleges to limit the number of international players on their rosters on a new episode of his show on Mad Dog Sports Radio (Ch. 82), “Holding Court with Patrick McEnroe.”
During the episode, available now on the SiriusXM app, Patrick pointed to the growing imbalance in college tennis.
“Division I tennis is now the most international major sport in college athletics — about 64% international on the men’s side and 61% on the women’s side,” he said.
He argued that it’s time for governing bodies to step in.
“I think it’s time — for the NCAA, for conferences, even lawmakers if necessary — to put a cap on the number of international players in American college tennis,” said McEnroe. “There has to be a real rule that says American universities also have a responsibility to develop American players. If we don’t do it, who’s going to?”
