Megadeth Talks Covering Metallica’s ‘Ride the Lightning’ and More During ‘Megadeth Week’
Liquid Metal is celebrating Megadeth’s final album all week with the thrash legends’ music and exclusive Q&A with Jose Mangin.

After more than four decades, Grammy Award-winning metal titans Megadeth unleashed their 17th and final studio album, “Megadeth” – and Liquid Metal is celebrating by playing new Megadeth every hour all week.
“Megadeth Week” features exclusive hourly content from the entire band led by metal master Dave Mustaine, backed by drummer Dirk Verbeuren, bassist James LoMenzo, and guitarist Teemu Mantysaari.
You’ll hear new music as introduced by the group, guest DJ picks from all four guys, plus the “Front Row with Megadeth” event that was captured live at our Nashville studios filled with SiriusXM subscribers, and hosted by Jose “Metal Ambassador” Mangin.
During the event, the thrash metal legends discussed their new album, recording a cover of Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning,” and much more.
“When we approach these songs, it’s the same mindset – you gotta do it as good as they do it, or better,” Dave Mustaine said. “How do you do a song better than Metallica? So, we looked at all the different parts, all the chording, the instruments. I believe that our recording is more modern now, and we sped it up a little bit, and we beefed up the drum fills at the end of the song.”
“And Teemu and I split the solo duties up, and we kinda did it the way that Kirk [Hammett] was doing it because Kirk was doing it the way I was originally doing it,” Dave continued. “And, of course, James [Hetfield] and I have two very unique voices, and we’re both very successful in our own right, but it’s a different voice. So, when it came time for me to sing James’ parts, I approached it differently, I sang it a little bit more.”
“Front Row with Megadeth” is a full new album playback special broken up by Jose’s interview and fan Q&A with Megadeth, live from Nashville. See run times below, or listen to the special anytime on the SiriusXM app.
