“New Girl” is getting political.

The Fox comedy will pit characters from across the aisle against each other in Tuesday’s episode, airing the night after the first presidential debate, star Max Greenfield told
“Entertainment Weekly Morning Live.”

“I think we’ve established Schmidt as a Republican, and he’s asked during the episode if he’s going to vote for [Donald] Trump, and he absolutely is not going to. Even he understands that’s not the road we want to go down,” he said.

Unsurprisingly, the titular “new girl” wants a woman in the White House.

“Jess and Cece are strongly campaigning for Hillary [Clinton], and they sort of get into this battle between the two,” Greenfield added, describing Zooey Deschanel and Hannah Simone’s characters.

“I have to say, I find that kind of fascinating that on Fox you’re able to get away with that,” host Jessica Shaw noted of the conservative entertainment company’s TV network.

“Apparently, there was a lot of notes,” Greenfield said, laughing. “There was a lot of [Broadcast Standards and Practices] notes.”

“New Girl” airs Tuesdays at 8:30pm ET on Fox. Hear “EW Morning Live” weekdays from 8–10am ET on Entertainment Weekly Radio. The presidential debate airs on SiriusXM tonight, Monday, September 26, at 9pm ET.
