Maisie Peters on Writing Songs with Ed Sheeran: ‘He Is One of the Girls’
Maisie Peters recently spoke with SiriusXM Hits 1 hosts Nicole Ryan, Ryan Sampson, and Stanley T on “The Morning Mash Up” about her experience writing songs with Ed Sheeran.
“The last time we wrote, the night before, I’d gone to his house and played him some of the record that became ‘Fluorescence,'” Maisie shared. “And then he came to the studio the next morning, and he was like, ‘I’ve had five ideas.'”
Maisie — who’s signed to Ed’s label, Gingerbread Man Records — said Ed “just has this crazy brain where he thinks at 5,000 miles a minute” while making music.
“He thinks so much faster than any of us. He had all of these ideas and phrases and song ideas,” she added. “It’s funny, ’cause we’re friends, so he does kind of know my life, so he’s sort of like pitching me this idea about my life. It’s so crazy. Ed Sheeran is telling me a song idea to write about my boyfriend. But he is one of the girls in a large way.
Maisie continued, “He’s the best, and he loves music so much. He is such a music fan. If you guys have met him, he just is obsessed with it, and obsessed with lyric, and obsessed with song, and still writes hundreds of songs a year. It’s so cool getting to write with him and witness that, and also be in this cool space where he really wants to help me write the best song that I can make. He’ll bring so many ideas to the table, but he also is so down and so ready to listen to anything I have to say as well.”
“The Morning Mash Up” hosted by Nicole Ryan, Ryan Sampson, and Stanley T airs weekday mornings on SiriusXM Hits 1 (Ch. 2). Stream full episodes anytime on the SiriusXM app.
