Dave Mustaine Teases a ‘Big Four’ Reunion Tour with Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax
He also told the story of performing the 2011 “Big Four” concert at Yankee Stadium with a severe neck injury.
The “Big Four” of 1980s thrash metal — Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax — played their last concert on September 14, 2011, at Yankee Stadium in New York City. With Slayer planning their retirement after one final world tour, SiriusXM host Eddie Trunk asked Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine the question on everyone’s mind: Will there be any more Big Four concerts?
Days before the bands’ 2011 event at Yankee Stadium, it was rumored that Mustaine was canceling his band’s appearance due to his own neck injuries. But, on the verge of getting emergency surgery, Mustaine still performed.
When asked by Trunk how he powered through the show in so much pain, Mustaine said, “There were some comments that were made about me that kind of made me want to do it even more,” referring to the taunts of his neck condition by Metallica’s co-manager, Peter Mensch.
