Washington has a seasoned bowl history with a 20-20-1 record, participating in their 42nd game this year. This Sugar Bowl clash marks the Pac-12’s inaugural appearance.

The Huskies accomplished a historic season, winning 13 games for the first time, going unbeaten in the regular season since 1991, and securing their third-ever 12+ win season.

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. leads FBS with 166 completions of 10+ yards, while Rome Odunze and Ja’lynn Polk contributed significantly to this feat. Remarkably, the defense allowed only 52 plays of 20+ yards this season.

On the other side, Texas makes its historic first College Football Playoff appearance, climbing from No. 7 to No. 3 in the rankings. The Longhorns secured the Big 12 title, their fourth overall, and the first since 2009. This season marks their 59th bowl appearance.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers recorded a Big 12 Championship Game record of 452 passing yards, while Xavier Worthy lead the Big 12 with 969 receiving yards. Additionally, Adonai Mitchell lead the Big 12 with 10 touchdown receptions.

This season, Texas intercepted 16 passes and the defense impressively limited opponents to a 26.5% third-down conversion rate. T’vondre Sweat and the defense allowed just 80.8 rushing yards per game, ranking third nationally.
