In honor of the 30th anniversary of Metallica’s fifth studio album, “Metallica” (more commonly called “The Black Album”), Ozzy’s Boneyard went behind the board with the band as they shared stories, insight, and songs off the 1991 album, plus tracks from their forthcoming star-studded “Blacklist” cover album.

During “The Black Album” celebration, lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo shared memories from 1991. Hammett talked about how his guitar work with James Hetfield on that album has stood the test of time, and Trujillo told the story of meeting the band through a tour with Suicidal Tendencies and then deciding to join Metallica’s roster.

“Metallica” was released on August 12, 1991, by Elektra Records. Referred to as “The Black Album” due to its package design, the album consisted of hit tracks like “Enter Sandman,” “The Unforgiven,” and “Nothing Else Matters.” It’s been certified 16x Platinum by RIAA to date.
