SiriusXMU Sessions invite listeners to hear the songs they know in a whole new way: stripped down and with the stories behind them. For boygenius’ Sessions, recorded at the SiriusXM Nashville studios, the group approached Reeder’s poetic lyrics with a beautiful, harmonic blend of their three voices and Bridgers on acoustic guitar. They also performed the band’s own songs “Cool About It” and “Not Strong Enough.”

An experimental folk artist, Reeder released his fifth studio album, Every Which Way, three years ago. It contained 20 tracks, including “Stay Down, Man,” with a deluxe version that added eight more songs. All of Reeder’s albums have been released under John Prine’s Oh Boy Records.

Bridgers hosts Saddest Factory Radio on SiriusXMU every month, where she and co-host Marshall Vore speak with special guests and share their favorite music. Stream previous episodes on the SXM App.

“Stay Down, Man” Lyrics

Nightclub parking lot south of L.A.
The end of a long night
at the end of a long day
The warm wind blows
and the palm trees sway
You’ve had that shitty look
on your face all day
I should have known this night would end this way
Stay down, man
If you get up again he’ll probably kill you
Stay where you are
I’ll go get the car and we can go
But I swear to god I’ll leave you
here to die
if you say one more word to that guy
Nightclub parking lot
south of L.A.
The end of a long night
at the end of a long day
The warm wind blows
and the palm trees sway
Somebody called it in
the cops are on the way
I should have known this night would end this way
Stay down, man
If you get up again he’ll probably kill you
Stay where you are
I’ll go get the car and we can go
But I swear to god I’ll leave you
here to die
if you say one more word to that guy
if you say one more word to that guy
if you say one more word to that guy
