American Football were the latest band to jam during SiriusXMU Sessions on SiriusXMU (Ch. 35), joining host Josiah Lambert for a conversation and exclusive performance at SiriusXM’s Nashville studio.
Featuring Mike Kinsella, Steve Holmes, Steve Lamos and Nate Kinsella, the band played tracks from their recent self-titled LP, affectionately dubbed “LP4” by fans, and performed an emotional cover of The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry.”
American Football collectively agreed that the song was formative in their lives.
“The Cure just made it seem, they’re so playful,” Mike told Josiah. “It’s just so disarmingly cute and honest. It’s like there’s no pretense, there’s no toughness. I think at a young age it was sort of reformative too. I mean literally, he’s saying boys don’t cry or whatever like you know, tongue and cheek. Yes, boys can cry and do cry. Anyways it’s an important band and important song.”
