Ariana explains that after growing up together and spending more than a decade in each other’s lives, ending their relationship wasn’t easy.
“I think we were both just going through different things and transitioning into different worlds,” Ariana says, adding that the pressures of moving to New York and having their relationship play out publicly may have contributed to their split.
The former couple also addresses the joint statement they released when announcing their breakup, with Ariana explaining that she wanted to handle the situation respectfully given how invested fans had become in their relationship.
As for a possible reconciliation, Ariana says the pair remains close friends and they’re “taking it day by day.”
