Both Earnhardt Jr. and Gragson spoke with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about the 13-car crash Gragson caused over the weekend.
The fan favorite and surefire future Hall of Famer broke the news on Tuesday at a press conference.
He will compete at the Daytona 500 in February.
“Looking forward to getting back in the car next year,” he said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
He updated SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on his recovery after an injury shut down his 2016 season.
Earnhardt said he will not be competing in the remaining 12 races of the Sprint Cup Series.
