Steph Curry Reveals His Best Golf Shot and NBA Golf Starting Five

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry may be best known for his shooting on the basketball court, but his love of golf runs deep.

Curry joined Smylie Kaufman on “The Smylie Show” in June 2023 to talk about his golf game, his experiences competing alongside professionals, and preparing for the eighth edition of “The Match.” He also revealed the NBA players he’d choose for a golf starting five and revisited a memorable round with Jordan Spieth and former President Barack Obama.

Curry once played a round of golf with Obama, Spieth, and Under Armour founder Kevin Plank in 2017. During the round, Spieth apparently used his time with the former president to ask one of life’s bigger questions: What does he know about aliens?

Curry confirmed the story on “The Smylie Show.”

“I can confirm. Yes, I can,” Curry said. “When you get time with the 44th president of the United States, I would be ashamed if you didn’t ask that question. … You gotta shoot your shot, right?”

The Best Golf Shot Curry Has Ever Hit

Asked to name his best shot on a golf course, Curry looked back at his 2018 appearance in the Ellie Mae Classic, then part of the Web.com Tour and now the Korn Ferry Tour.

During the opening round at TPC Stonebrae, Curry hit a nine-iron directly off the flagstick on the par-4 eighth hole, leaving himself a short birdie putt. He went on to shoot a 1-over 71 that day.

“My second shot, it was like a nine iron, and … it was dead-eye on the stick,” Curry recalled. “It smacked the stick down like the base of the stick … and then kind of spun back towards the hole.”

He added, “I ended up making birdie and shooting a really decent, respectable score out there.”

Steph Curry’s NBA Starting Five of Golfers

When Kaufman asked Curry to construct a starting five made up of NBA players who can also play golf, Curry tapped several familiar names — including his brother and two longtime Warriors teammates.

“I’m going Seth Curry. Pat Connaughton at the two,” Curry said. “[Then I’m taking] Kyle Lowry, Klay Thompson, and Andre Iguodala.”

Curry Takes on ‘The Match’

The conversation came ahead of “The Match VIII,” which paired Curry with Warriors teammate Klay Thompson against Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas.

Mahomes and Kelce ultimately defeated Curry and Thompson, 3 and 2, in the 12-hole scramble.
