INDIANAPOLIS — Don’t try to tell North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky that the NFL Draft is weak at the position.
He has spent the past several days around other members of the class at the NFL Scouting Combine. He knows how well he can play and he has watched the others in games.
‘I think we can do some special things, especially at the next level’
He finds the criticism insulting.
“For people to say like this is a weak quarterback class, I kind of take offense to that and I take pride being a part of this quarterback class,” Trubisky told Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn on the SiriusXM Blitz. “Because I think we can do some special things, especially at the next level, so we’re kind of bonding in that way and we’re just having a lot of fun out here.”
‘A lot of teams are wondering why I didn’t get the job earlier’
Why are members of the group being doubted? In Trubisky’s case, the questions stem from his limited experience. At least, that’s what he has heard from NFL team representatives during interviews here.
“For me, it’s the 13 starts and a lot of teams are wondering why I didn’t get the (starting) job earlier,” Trubisky said. “And there have been some questions about my leadership and how I lead and what type of teammate I am. Well, I think, just going through these interviews, I’ve answered those types of questions and I can be that leader, I can be that franchise quarterback and I had been a great teammate. So I’m just continuing to do those things and I think it’s all going to work out.”
‘My hometown’s Mentor, Ohio, and I have a lot of pride in that’
There was speculation this week that the Cleveland Browns, who are looking for a quarterback, are considering using the top overall pick on Trubisky. Trubisky, who grew up near Cleveland, is intrigued by the prospect.
“I mean, it would definitely be interesting,” he said. “My hometown’s Mentor, Ohio, and it’s close to Cleveland and I have a lot of pride in that. But, I mean, beggers can’t be choosers, I don’t think, so whatever team selects me, I’m going to give them my all and I’m going to work as hard as I possibly can to be successful for that franchise.”
