Peggy Gou Reveals Madonna Passed on Her Original ‘I Feel So Free’ Remix
The DJ and producer opens up about working with the “Queen of Pop” in a new interview on BPM.
Working with Madonna was an easy “yes” for Peggy Gou. During an exclusive conversation with Geronimo on BPM (Ch. 52), the DJ and producer opens up about working with the “Queen of Pop” on “I Feel So Free (Peggy Gou Energy Mix),” the remix of the new track featured on the pop icon’s upcoming album, “Confessions II.”
“Who isn’t a Madonna fan?” Peggy says. “She’s one of the artists that I really look up to.”
Peggy also reveals that she created two versions of the song: a Patrick Cowley-inspired disco mix and a breakbeat version. Madonna’s team ultimately chose the former, though Peggy admits she asked if she could release the unreleased breakbeat remix herself.
“I did ask them, ‘Can I release it on the record?’ Never got an answer,” she says, adding that the alternate version has a completely different feel and would have been the kind of track she’d play as the final song in one of her DJ sets.
Plus, Peggy recalls meeting Madonna for the first time in May, calling the experience “iconic” and saying she admires the superstar even more after meeting her.

Madonna’s “Confessions II” is set to be released on Peggy’s birthday (July 3).
