Stephen A. Smith Describes His Daughter's Terrifying Experience with Police

About This Clip
STEPHEN A. SMITH: Literally, four cops pulled me over. Joe, this is 4:30 in the afternoon. JOE MADISON: Come on. SMITH: Four cop cars. Four cop cars. One cop car came, and then the other three cop cars followed them. And the officer got out, I said, 'what did I,' and I rolled down all four windows. I put both of my hands on my steering wheel. My daughter, who is at the time, eight years old, at the time she is sitting in the backseat. And literally, literally, the officer comes up to me. I said, 'What did I do?' He said, 'Shut the F up!' MADISON: You're kidding me. SMITH: And literally grabbed, and put his hands on his gun. And I just sat up there and I froze. I kept my composure. I gritted my teeth. I didn't say a word. ... MADISON: Let me add something that I don't want people to miss. And that is the eight year old who is in the backseat. That seed of inferiority, that seed of that experience, was planted in her head, her brain at that moment. And I bet you, how old is she now? SMITH: She's 11 now. MADISON: I bet you she could recall that as if it were yesterday. And I'm telling you, Stephen A. Smith, when you're not even on this planet, and I'm not on this planet, if somebody asked her about it, she'll recall it even as she grows into adulthood. That's the impact. That's the virus. ... SMITH: And here's the thing about it too. Because obviously you don't have too many, you would hope that you don't have too many instances with the police...That is the only experience she has ever had in her 11 years on this Earth.
