Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins (8) celebrates with wide receiver Pierre Garcon (88) after Garcon caught a touchdown pass from him against the New York Jets during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, in East Rutherford, N.J.

The Washington Redskins are in Pierre Garcon’s rearview mirror.

Still, even as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, the wide receiver does take a peek every now and then. And when he does, he can see something that doesn’t seem right.

‘He’s moving the ball up and down the field’

Such as, why is his former quarterback, Kirk Cousins, still seeking a long-term contract?

“I don’t know, man. I wish I had the answer,” Garcon told Bruce Murray and Kirk Morrison on the SiriusXM Blitz.

‘He’s the guy that’s helped us make those playoff runs’

When Garcon thinks about Cousins, he sees a quarterback “moving the ball up and down the field” and making plays.

“He’s been doing it for a long time,” Garcon said. “He is the guy that’s helped us make those playoff runs and do a lot of things great for us. I don’t know why he’s not the long-term answer there.

‘His numbers are getting better and better’

“But I’m happy we’re all getting those opportunities now and he’s showing his talents on the field. Kirk’s doing very well and his numbers are getting better and better. And he enjoys playing football. He works at it.”

Asked if he could envision Cousins eventually becoming a free agent and signing with the 49ers, Garcon artfully dodged away, saying that his focus is only on the season-opening game against the Carolina Panthers.
