Wednesday Night Gospeltime Jam

Number One-FTD’s double CD In Person At The International (the one with the “Black Leather” cover!) Terry Mike chooses ELVIS IN PERSON AT THE INTERNATIONAL HOTEL LAS VEGAS NEVADA and says, “my favorite, because, I saw Elvis for the first time in concert (and met him!) on August 1, 1969, and following that event, RCA released this album about 3 months later. So, after my experience of seeing and meeting him, this was a real prize, personally, for me. The original album was all that was available at that time, but the FTD release contains not only the original album, but also a bonus concert (Aug 22) and "rare performances" of things like "This Is The Story" and "Inherit The Wind", recorded live. A footnote: That first night I saw him, he performed "Suspicious Minds", and announced that it was a new song, and it was released a few weeks later. It was VERY cool to hear this song live, before I ever heard the record.”

ELVIS RADIO PRESENTS TERRY MIKE JEFFREY’S TOP TEN ELVIS LAS VEGAS CONCERTS! Number Two-The Return To Vegas. Terry Mike chooses THE RETURN TO VEGAS: “Of all of the 1969 Vegas releases, this one is closer to the one I recall from my experience in '69. Most of the live releases from this time tend to sound a bit the same, same dialog, arrangements, etc. But this one seems to be an earlier recording, closer to the beginning of the engagement. It's interesting that this is the only FTD recording of live shows from August '69 that does not list an exact date. The quality of the recording is such that I wonder if it is a soundboard recording (cassette) rather than an actual RCA recording. There are things about certain songs that I hear on this one that insures that it is an earlier recording, such as, the tempo of "Suspicious Minds" (much slower), the violin solo on "Are You Lonesome Tonight" (rather than the high female voice solo on all the others), and Elvis' banter with the audience seems a bit more stiff, as if he hasn't settled in just yet. I remember that violin solo from August 1, 1969.”
